Its that time of year when we start scouring stores and hoarding D batteries (no, not Valentines Day.) Its hurricane season! Floridians are an odd bunch when it comes to the five months of wind and impending doom; we have a couple of quiet years and we forget entirely about Wilmas complete annihilation of Broward Country. The crew at Cranes BeachHouse (82 Gleason St., Delray Beach) hasnt forgotten. How could they? After the hurricanes in 2006, Cranes took in everyone from the Red Cross to FEMA, an act that leaves a lasting imprint on a joint.
Touched by the memory of community come-togetherness, Cranes owners now throw a yearly celebration to kick off the storms in proper style: with cocktails, hors doeuvres, and celebrity bartenders. Youre invited to show up tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. and party like its 1999 besides, all proceeds go to benefit the Red Cross. $20 gets you one drink and snacks (additional drinks are available at happy hour prices).
