There's something kind of inauthentic about resting in a meditative yoga post, splayed out on a laminated gym floor with fluorescent lights overhead, clenching onto a PVC yoga mat that will sit in a landfill 500-plus years after you leave this good green earth and imagining your happy place -- usually a pristine nature spot that's somewhere deep in the forest or near a rushing water source, right? Why not skip all that phony nonsense and go directly to that very happy place and experience yoga unplugged, out in the elements? With Hiking Yoga at Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, you can immerse yourself in a native maritime hardwood hammock ecosystem (some of the last designated in Broward County) and hike along the Coastal Hammock Trail with guide and certified yoga teacher and holistic life coach Tiffany Anne Smith. Set at a brisk pace, the hike is followed by yoga instruction and poses suitable for all levels of yogis. With an 8:45 a.m. start and 10:15 finish, you can safely avoid the hottest part of the day and get right back to the AC, if you must. Hiking Yoga costs $15 at 3109 E. Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale.
