Music for Your Mood

Awards-show season is back, and it's sucking the life out of you. We know; it's sucking the life out of us too. You can pretend to care about Katy Perry's outfit for only so long. But there is the occasion where the award-giving crowd got it (almost) right. One such case is two-time Grammy-nominated Elsten Torres. Even if you have never heard of this Cuban-born, New York-raised singer/songwriter, you know it's good. Falling into the fledgling genre of alternative pop, Torres is finding his audience after already finding his voice. A mix of commercial pop with independent thoughts and compositions means that Torres is full of original sound. If the crap on the radio's got you down, if you accidentally watched a Miley Cyrus video this morning, allow Torres to fix what may be broken. Live music always soothes the soul, and great live music could change your mood for a solid month. With a smooth rhythm and big band sound, we have a feeling Torres will knock your bad mood into next year. Elsten Torres performs live at 8 p.m. Friday at the Arts Garage, located at 180 NE First St. in Delray Beach. Tickets cost $25 to $45. Call 561-450-6357, or visit artsgarage.org.
