Now Entering the Danger Zone

Load up the iTunes library with Kenny Loggins jams and bust out the body oil and aviators, cause it’s beach volleyball time in Hollywood. (C’mon: Who can resist a Top Gun reference in this situation?) The Reflekt Polarized Big Shot Volleyball Series will land on Hollywood Beach this weekend featuring top players in divisions like the men and women’s open and coed teams. There’s even a bracket for teen players. This weekend’s showdown is part of a series of 35 events around the region. Competitors will set, spike, block, and sweat their way for a chance to make it to the Big Shot Championships in September at Bally’s Casino in Atlantic City. This weekend’s beach volleyball tournament is 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday (and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday) at 900 N. Broadwalk in Hollywood. The playoffs will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. each day. There is no entry fee for spectators and the cost is $50 per team to participate. Call 631-728-0397, or visit
Sat., April 20, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sun., April 21, 9 a.m.-6 p.m., 2013
