Promethean Theatre has a knack for putting on some of the edgiest productions in South Florida, as illustrated with its latest production,
The Dumb Waiter, by Harold Pinter. The plot: Two hit men are sitting in a room, waiting for their next murderous assignment. At the back of the room is a dumbwaiter a small elevator normally used to carry food from a kitchen to a dining room. It repeatedly delivers orders for food, but theres no food in the room. Who is sending the orders? And when are they going to find out whom they are supposed to kill? The whole situation starts to get on their nerves, and no one wants to be trapped in a room with an aggravated hit man.
The premise may sound simple, but the beauty is in the storytelling: Pinter is a Nobel laureate for playwriting, and The Dumb Waiter is one of his most celebrated scripts. Starring local actors Ricky Waugh and Gregg Weiner, showtimes are Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 3 and 8 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m. through March 21 at the Mailman Hollywood Theatre at Nova Southeastern University (3301 College Ave., Davie).
