At 7:30 p.m. in the Abdo New River Room at the Broward Center (201 SW Fifth Ave., Fort Lauderdale), assembled songwriters will each perform a single song, acoustic and solo. Anyone could do it. Even you. It’s an open mic. At 9 p.m., the professionals take over and perform their own songs, also acoustic and solo. These individuals include Hunter Altschul, a dreadfully sensitive young man who dresses like a hippie but sings like Beirut if Beirut had never been to Europe; and Diane Ward, a pop-folky with a versatile, rich, and intoxicatingly milky voice that owes the world at least one really good jazz album. This is the Chrystal Hartigan Songwriters’ Showcase, and it costs only $10. Hit up browardcenter.org for more info
