Sing Till It Helps

Clear your vocal cords and lower those inhibitions for the fifth-annual Zimmerman Karaokethon this Wednesday at Deerfield Beach's All Stars Sports Bar and Grill. Experience the thrill of hours upon hours of beer-induced, out-of-tune renditions of karaoke classics such as Don McLean's "American Pie," Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'," or current upstart "Pumped Up Kicks," by Foster the People. The joy of karaoke is in the performance and having a laugh at other people's vocal shortcomings. All the sloppy, inharmonious action gets under way at 8 p.m. and lasts until midnight. Proceeds from the event will benefit LiveStrong, the Lance Armstrong Foundation founded in 1997 that empowers the lives of cancer victims and their families. Admission to this unmelodious grand affair is only $10. Your donation also comes with one free drink and an appetizer buffet to help you better belt out that crazy falsetto off "Bohemian Rhapsody." There will also be raffles and plenty of prizes. A portion of the monies raised will also go to the LiveLong family bike ride and run event, occurring on October 13 and 14. Sing your lungs out, and help save lives. All Stars Sports Bar and Grill is located at 2201 W. Sample Road in Deerfield Beach. Call 954-644-4386, or visit
