Spoon Feed Me

Is it so wrong to love hook-inflected pop, delivered with a sideways glance and a you’re-in-on-it smirk? We think not. Spoon delivers on this promise with a plate of masterfully crafted tunes that leave you humming even after they end. The Austin/Portland based band has been pleasing listeners in this fashion since the early ´90s, and, following a few bumpy moments along the way (they were dropped by Elektra in 1996), they have matured into a fantastic pop band. Last year’s Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga yielded a nice little gem of a hit, “The Underdog,” in which lead singer Britt Daniels coaxes along a smoky, sparkling vocal melody, all the while accompanied by ebullient horns and handclaps, warning the unsuspecting unnamed foes about the underrated lurkers named in the title. Spoon is playing at Revolution (300 Himmarshee St., Fort Lauderdale) with the Walkmen, and White Rabbits at 7 p.m. Tickets are $19.00 in advance at www.ticketmaster.com.
