Somewhere in the middle lies Side Bar in downtown Fort Lauderdale: It’s doesn’t have the divey feel like Fat Cats and Poor House or the clubby feel like VooDoo Lounge and the Green Room. It’s more of a club/bar: No hats or shorts allowed. And, literally, it rests in the middle of downtown too. So the DJ collective Twilight Notes appropriately chose Side Bar to host its new deep-house event, called “The Standard,” because it’ll be a comfortable area for both the bar and club types to lounge and dance. Records of the deep, funky, and soulful house nature will spin. To boot, Wednesday at Side Bar is ladies’ night, so the female sex gets two-for-one appetizers, cocktails, select wines, and all beers — but remember, ladies, to present yourself in an unescorted fashion (the Side Bar flier reads — and warns — that this is “for all unescorted ladies”). The resident DJs will be Shade and Adam Foster, and each event could also feature special musical guests. “The Standard” runs from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. on the first Wednesday of every month at Side Bar (210 SW Second St., Fort Lauderdale). No cover. Call 954-524-1818, or visit himmarshee.com as well as twilightnotes.com.
First Wednesday of every month, 7 p.m., 2010
