The Naked Truth

Streaks are generally a good thing, unless we’re talking about those people in England that run around naked at tennis and soccer matches. Or the Florida Marlins. The Fish had themselves a pretty cool streak a few weeks back when they went fifteen-straight games with ten or more hits — something that hasn’t been done since the 1937 St. Louis Browns. And yet, Florida still managed to drop must-win games. When the Marlins faced the Atlanta Braves two weeks ago, they were supposed to use those multiple hits to beat their NL East rival and get a foothold on the Wild Card race. Instead, the pitching imploded and, with it, their postseason dreams. The Wild Card is now a long shot, but there’s still time for revenge as the Marlins hosts Atlanta Thursday at LandShark Stadium (2269 Dan Marino Blvd). And, unlike a streak, revenge is best when served cold. First pitch is at 7:10 p.m. Call 1-877-MARLINS or visit florida.marlins.mlb.com.
