Think Inside the Box

At first glance, it looks like a beautifully wrapped present, but remove the lid of the Venetian explosion box and a surprise of photos, drawings, collages, and text will unfold before your eyes. Learn how to make your own unique box of surprises when you join artist Lou Anne Colodny in this year’s final Artists in Action! discussion and workshop at the Girls’ Club in Fort Lauderdale. The Girls’ Club, a nonprofit alternative space exhibiting contemporary art by women, will host Colodny on Friday at 7 p.m. as she discusses her evolving career in the arts, her creative process, and unique practices. Colodny, whose works are in the permanent collections at Miami Art Museum, the Southeast Museum of Photography, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Optic Nerve, among others, will also share how her experiences in dance, theater, and museum administration have greatly informed her art. The discussion is free and open to the public. And don’t miss Colodny’s workshop on Venetian explosion boxes at the Girls’ Club, located at 117 NE Second St., Fort Lauderdale, on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. Artists of all ages and levels of experience are welcome to participate. The registration fee is $30, and all materials are included. Student discounts are available. Call 954-828-9151, or email [email protected] to register. Visit girlsclubcollection.org or louannecolodny.com to find out more about Colodny’s practice.
