When Giant Polka Dots Were in Vogue

If you’re nostalgic for the free love of the 1960s and the disco of the 1970s, Coral Springs Museum of Art has got you covered. Every year, they put on the Great Art Fair, which is “Flower Power Rock” themed: meaning it’s a mélange of the two decades. Rick Shaw of 102.7 will MC, and local restaurants will fork over plenty of food. There will be a bar for drink, silent and live auctions of sports memorabilia and art, a Chinese auction for gift certificates and the like, and a raffle to win trips to the Bahamas. The proceeds go to fund the museum’s educational programs and student scholarships. So what does any of this have to do with the ’60s and ’70s? The point is to wear your threads from those decades. Time to pull out that patchwork rag you wore to Woodstock, even if it’s been mothballed for five decades deep in your closet. It’s 1969 again.

The 11th Annual Great Art Fair at the Coral Springs Museum of Art (2855 Coral Springs Dr, Coral Springs) begins at 6:30 p.m. on April 22, 2010. Ticks cost $50 in advance, $75 at the door. Call 954-340-5000, or visit csmart.org.
