Who is the Proopdog?

Improvisational guru Greg Proops is a strange cat, really; strange enough to refer to himself on his website in almost a dozen totally odd ways: Proopkitty, Dr. P, Darth Proops, Mr. Proopwell, Prooples, and, of course, Proopdog. While this could be a sign that schizophrenia has finally set in, it’s probably more telling that Proops has spent his entire career under the “Man of 1000 Faces” category. During his bouts of improv on the BBC/ABC series Whose Line is it Anyway? (we prefer the British version), the spectacled comedian slips in and out of more characters than a Broadway line reader, creating some truly knee-slapping moments in the process. So, yes, he’s probably used to referring to himself under a multitude of equally hilarious monikers.

But, you want to know, “Is his stand up any good?” Well, the Proopmeister is also well known for braving the red carpet alongside Joan and Melissa Rivers, which should tell you something about his steely resolve in uncomfortable situations. So there’s no way Proops could bomb at the Improv Paradise Live (5700 Seminole Way, Hollywood); he’s got all the will power needed to pull any show through. Tickets cost $18; shows run Thursday through Sunday. Call 954-981-5653, or visit www.improvftl.com.
