Women's-rights issues have been the RPatz/KStew breakup of the political news sphere. It's everywhere, from "personhood" bills to the birth control debate; it's clear that partisan discussions about "the fairer sex" aren't going anywhere. There is one key issue that has defined women in politics since the early 1900s, and that's women's right to vote. The anniversary of that date is coming up, and Florida Atlantic University's Center for Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies, and other local organizations plan on celebrating. This Women's Equality Day commemoration will include a reception, with keynote speaker Susan Bucher, the Palm Beach County supervisor of elections, as the keynote speaker; and lots of women dressed in the colors of their suffragist ancestors. So bring your purples and whites to the Engineering Building on FAU's Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. The event runs from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and is free and open to the public.
