Somewhere along the line, geek became chic. Maybe it was Orlando Bloom’s flowing flaxen tresses in Lord of the Rings. Maybe it was a generation that grew up reading Harry Potter and secretly hoping for a Hogwarts letter to arrive. Or perhaps it’s just that a show with this much blatant nudity was bound to be popular, but you know damned well you are counting the days until Game of Thrones returns to HBO on April 12. You’re reading the books, you’re listening to the audiobooks in the car, and you’re marathoning seasons one through four just to get your fix. Now, you can get a taste of GoT on the big screen — the biggest screen around: the IMAX screen. This is the first television series to get the IMAX treatment, and, frankly, seeing the Night’s Watch defend Castle Black against the Wildlings needs to be seen this way.
The “world’s most immersive cinematic experience” will be showing Game of the Throne: The IMAX Experience (which consists of the last two episodes of season four and an exclusive sneak-peek trailer for the upcoming season five) from Thursday through February 5. Showtimes are 10 p.m. Thursday, January 29; 1:50, 4:25, 7, and 9:35 p.m. Friday, January 30; 4:55, 7:30, and 10:05 p.m. Saturday, January 31; 3:40, 6:15, and 8:50 p.m. Sunday, February 1; and 1:50, 4:25, 7, and 9:35 p.m. Monday, February 2, through Thursday, February 5. Admission is $14. The Museum of Discovery and Science and AutoNation IMAX Theater are located at 401 SW Second St. in Fort Lauderdale. Call 954-713-0930, or visit mods.org/IMAX/showtimes.
