Yet again, the Broward Sheriff's Office is entitled to another told-ya-so moment.

Year after year, the BSO invites media members to see the fire marshal and the bomb squad blow up fireworks on mannequins, including the Gallagher-esque watermelon explosions, as a safety demonstration.

And year after year, people still light fireworks off in their hands, shoot them off in unknown directions, and endanger themselves in the name of fun -- this year at the expense of at least three people in South Florida, including an 8-year-old girl.

The Sheriff's Office reported on Sunday that an 8-year-old Hollywood girl was taken to the hospital after an amateur pyrotechnics display gone wrong.

Cops say a man decided to use a cinder block as a support to shoot off a firework, which caused the concrete block to explode.

The shrapnel flew across the man's yard, striking the 8-year-old girl in the head as she stood 30 tp 40 feet away from the explosion.

Her injury wasn't life-threatening, police say, but she was taken to a nearby hospital for the treatment of her injuries.

In two other Broward County incidents, WSVN reports that two men were hospitalized yesterday for their fireworks antics.

First, a man of unknown age took some fireworks to the face, suffering "serious injuries," in Coral Springs, the fire department tells the news outlet.

Then a firework went off in the hand of a 27-year-old man in Pembroke Pines, giving him an injury of an unknown degree as he tried to light it.

Back in Coral Springs, the news station reports a lit firecracker was shot into someone's garage, sparking a fire.

No one was injured in the fire, but it reportedly caused significant damage to the garage, according to WSVN.

The Sheriff's Office says that more than 10,000 people are injured by fireworks every year and that more than half of those injuries are to children.
