A deal is imminent for the Omphoy Ocean Resort in Palm Beach to be sold to billionaire and former senatorial candidate Jeff Greene -- yep, the same guy who became notorious for partying with Mike Tyson on his yacht. (Our slide show of said yacht is here.)
The resort opened in August 2009 but has been in foreclosure since last summer. It has an AAA four-diamond rating and was ranked the 12th best resort in the U.S. in a Conde Nast readers' poll. It is home to a gourmet restaurant, Michelle Bernstein's at the Omphoy.
Greene has been
on a buying spree recently, snapping up the post office on the island (for $3.7 million) as well as a SoHo building (for $26 million) and a sprawling property in the Hamptons ($41 million).
The Omphoy's general manager, Deborah Carr, confirmed the impending sale, saying that it "will stabilize the hotel, certainly," and that the purchase "will fulfill the original plan of having a high-end boutique hotel here on the island."
The Omphoy was opened by Obadon Hotels, which also runs the Brazilian Court in Palm Beach.
Will update with purchase price when that is disclosed.
