Ballet is a calculated mix of form, grace, car commercials, and guys wearing Uncle Sam hats. OK, maybe not all ballet. But that is what you can expect at Broward Community College's 2006 Spring Dance Concert. In her choreographed piece State of a Union, BCC dance faculty member Elana Lanczi offers an abstract portrait of war, patriotism, and consumerism, told solely through movement and interspersed with “commercial breaks” that mimic old Chevrolet ads (the ones that make you feel un-American for buying another brand). And it’s all set to a soundtrack the ranges from Jimi Hendrix to Mozart. Also on the bill are Kristin O ’Neal’s Looking Forward, Erin St. John’s The Chase, and works by student choreographers Grace Ann Edwards, Ashlea Mokos, and Melissa Rask. So hop in your Chevy and head down to the Bailey Concert Hall at BCC’s central campus (3501 SW Davie Rd., Davie). Performances take place Friday and Saturday. Tickets cost $10. Call 954-201-6884.
