If Flavor Palm Beach isn't dominating your dining calendar this weekend -- read more about the month-long restaurant promotion here -- that means you've got a little bit of room to explore the other food-related happenings this weekend in Broward and Palm Beach counties. After the jump find five things -- from various Brazil-centric parties, to do-it-yourself projects -- to keep you busy in South Florida until Monday.

1. Friday Night Live in downtown Boca Raton

Gourmet Truck Expo is coordinating a small-scale food truck invasion for tonight's Friday Night Live gathering in Sanborn Square in downtown Boca. Slated to appear are 90 Miles to Go, Boba Station, D'Marky, International Classic Cuisine, Mobile Culinary Kitchen, Rio Samba Grill, Tango Grill, and The Real Chill. The trucks' appearance is part of a larger free event to celebrate Brazilian Independence Day with a Zumba demo, capoeira, a carnival show, art, fashion, and other festive elements. The trucks will start serving at 6 p.m. and entertainment begins around 7:30 p.m.

2. Viva! Brazil

Speaking of basking in all things Brazil, Pistache French Bistro in West Palm Beach is hosting the next stop on its summer-long Tour du Monde this Saturday night. The evening's focus is Brazilian independence and culture with a themed three-course dinner for $39 (the regular menu also is available). Carnival dancers, samba, caipirinha cocktails, and more, are on the docket. It all takes place starting around 6 p.m. Saturday.

3. Sunday Funday with Florida-brewed beer

Local beer savants Due South Brewing Co. are once again stepping up their Sunday game with an array of activities for beer and sports fans. The tap room will broadcast the Dolphins game at 1 p.m. and will welcome a food truck on premises from 2 to 8 p.m. The Due South free weekly cornhole tournament starts at 6 p.m. and anyone is welcome to play, but arrive early to sign up; the tourney is getting pretty popular.

4. Learn to grow your own food

Restaurant budget not what it used to be? If you can't afford the whole farm-to-table trend, why not take a stab at doing it yourself? Since there's an art to this growing-your-own-dinner thing, it's probably best to get a little background on it before you jump in. Mounts Botanical Garden in West Palm Beach will host a Farm-Your-Backyard: Vegetable Growing workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The cost is $30 for members and $40 for non-members. Read more about the workshop here.

5. Couples-only cooking demo

Saturday's "couples only dinner party" demo at Chef Jean-Pierre's Cooking School is sort of a best of both worlds date-night activity. It's more interactive than the typical dinner-in-a-restaurant routine, but it doesn't require a ton of work on your behalf. Bring a bottle of vino and your significant other and partake in a two to two-and-half-hour cooking class with a menu that includes bouillabaisse risotto, sundried-tomato-crusted rack of lamb, and chocolate mousse. The cost is $150 per couple and there are only a few spots remaining. Call 954-563-2700.
