Break Out the Wine and Cheese

If you consider yourself a Francophile (meaning you love all things French) or cinema lover, then you should get yourself to Cinema Paradiso’s Rendez-Vous With French Cinema. On Thursday at 8 p.m., you will have the chance to see Le magasin des suicides, or, in English, The Suicide Shop. With a name like that, you wouldn’t expect it to be a critically acclaimed, 79-minute animated musical about a happy child born into a family driven by the suicide-prone atmosphere that encompasses this version of France in the mid-1800s. Believe it or not, this is a comedy. Well, a dark comedy based on a novel and directed by master filmmaker Patrice Leconte. Tickets for the film may be purchased at the door or in advance online. Cost for tickets is $10 for general admission, $8 for seniors and students, and $6 for FLIFF members. Cinema Paradiso is located at 503 SE Sixth St. in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Visit FLIFF.com, or call 954-525-3456.
