Last year, Omaha’s Cursive challenged its fans to remix the single, “Bad Sects,” from the Happy Hollow LP. The winning entry earned the flipside on the 12” single, which is finally available this week. Have a listen to the “Bad Sects (A Crude Mechanical Mix)”, as well as the runner-ups here.

Here’s the original.

Also in CrossFade news, the Shins are putting a studio version of their recent live staple and Magnetic Fields cover, “Strange Powers,” on the upcoming "Sea Legs" single. Here’s the live version, courtesy of You Ain’t No Picasso.

How Ya Like Me Now

Blackalicious rhyme crafter Gift of Gab has teamed up with Lateef the Truthspeaker and Headnodic for The Mighty Underdogs. The supergroup released the online-only Prelude EP last week, which includes appearances from DJ Shadow, MF DOOM and Digable Planets’ Ladybug Mecca. You can stream “Gunfight” on MySpace and then fight off the urge to dig up Kool Moe Dee’s “Wild Wild West”.

Public Enemy

New Jersey’s Dillinger Escape Plan returns to pummel your eardrums on December 11. Stream the mathcore act's upcoming third LP, Ire Works, in its entirety on the band's MySpace.

BMX Bandits

In 1986, a little movie called Rad (quite possibly the greatest BMX film ever made) set the events in motion that would ultimately lead to me getting a broken arm. 20 years later, Chicago’s Cool Kids make me want to do it all over again.

“Black Mags” is the first single from The Bake Sale EP, due in January. Here’s the portable version, courtesy of Spin, and listen to a few more songs here, at the Cool Kids’ MySpace page.

Primus’ Les Claypool is getting his mockumentary, Electric Apricot: Quest for Festeroo, a limited theatrical release this week thanks to National Lampoon. From the trailer, I’m guessing it will be a very limited release. Watch it here.
