For beer snobs, their love of beer comes in a close second only to their true loves. But there is nothing that says "I love you" more on Valentine's Day than getting them a six'er of chocolate beer.
10. Rogue Chocolate Stout
Originally created for export to Japan, Rogue Chocolate Stout was released for the U.S. market on Valentine's Day in 2001. It comes in draft or in a 22-ounce "bomber" bottle and rated at 6 percent alcohol-by-volume (ABV). It retails for $8.49 at Total Wine and More.
9. Young's Double Chocolate Stout
Dubbed as a milk stout, Young's Double Chocolate Stout comes in single pint pint bottles ($9), 4-pack bottles ($9) or in 4-pack, 15 ounce cans ($9), or in draft of course. It weighs in at 5.2 percent alcohol. It's dark, rich and creamy and a little sweet to taste.
8. Fort Collins Brewery Double Chocolate Stout
FCB considers their double chocolate stout their "most decadent" brew. And for good reason too because it's a high-gravity, chocolatey beer, sitting at 8.1 percent ABV. It's a special release beer so you might have a hard time finding one. If you do, then just place a special order. If not that, then there is always FCB's regular chocolate stout, which is just as good and more common. Retails for about $8 for a 4-pack of 12 ounce bottles.
7. Abita Turbodog
Brewed with Willamette hops and a combination of pale, crystal and chocolate malts, Abita Turbodog is an English brown ale that has a sweet, toffee/chocolatey flavor. Luckily, this beer is common in specialty stores throughout South Florida. Sits at 5.6 percent ABV and retails for around $8 for a six-pack of 12 ounce bottles.
6. Brooklyn Brewing Co. Black Chocolate Stout
Every beer snob knows that Brooklyn Brewing Co. makes some fine-assed beers, but this may be one of their finest. An imperial stout, it's another heavy hitter at 10 percent ABV. You can also let it age in the bottle too for better taste. Retails at around $8 for a 4-pack of 12 ounce bottles.
5. Ass Kisser Chocolate Box Dark Oatmeal Stout
Brewed by Ass Kisser Ales out of San Jose, CA, the ridiculous name implies that it is meant to please the palate to whomever it is gifted. They are usually sold in 22 ounce bombers for around $8.
4. Samuel Smith's Organic Chocolate Stout
Samuel Smith's chocolate beer is brewed with water from an old English well that was sunk in 1758--classy. Sitting at 5 percent ABV, this beer costs $6 for a 18 ounce bottle, or $12 for a 4-pack of 12 ounce bottles. Also certified organic by the Soil Association in the United Kingdom.
3. Clown Shoes Chocolate Sombrero Stout
The name seems a little funny until you taste it, then you'll want another one. Sitting at 9 percent ABV, this beer usually comes in 22 ounce bombers and retails for around $8.
2. Great Divide Yeti Chocolate Imperial Stout
What can this blogger say about this beer? It is simply fantastic. It tastes like a hoppy chocolate milkshake. Let your Valentine taste the head on this and you'll be getting head that same night. Sitting at 9.5 percent ABV and usually sold in 22 ounce bottles.
1. Due South Roast Cocoa Stout
Maybe you'd want to take your Valentine out for dinner and drinks. In that case, take them for a night out at Due South's taproom where roast cocoa stout is on tap. Sitting at 6.1 percent ABV, a pint of this costs $4.50 or $3.50 for a 12 ounce. During happy hour from 4-6 p.m. all Due South beers are $1 off.
