Akon already caused an international media stir recently when he told MTV UK he didn't believe in blood diamonds. (He was defending his own purchase of a mine in South Africa).
Then, there was the onstage debacle involving a teenage girl in Trinidad that caused him to lose his Verizon tour sponsorship.
Now the "Smack That" singer is causing problems stateside -- by [allegedly?] physically assaulting a member of his own audience on Sunday at a radio station-sponsored concert near Poughkeepsie, New York. Mediatakeout.com was the first site to post these videos, taken by others in the crowd. Check this one, and after the jump, an alternate angle.
Granted, no one should be allowed to throw things at the stage. But security guards can take care of that, so the entertainer can get on with the show his fans paid to see. Allowing his pride be so wounded, and wasting that much time to throw a child into an audience of other children, makes Akon appear equally juvenile. Looks like he needs a time out.
UPDATE: Apparently the guy wasn't hurt and hasn't come forward to press charges. Check for further news about the incident here: www.poughkeepsiejournal.com.
