South Florida Food and Drink Events This Week: Cinco de Mayo, Fleet Week, and More

Around and around we go; today is the start to yet another lovely workweek. Hopefully, you have a bit of a spring in your step from some indulgent weekend activities. If not, don't fret; there are still plenty of events to keep you busy through your working days. Whether you're looking to celebrate Cinco de Mayo on Tuesday, eat up during a food truck round-up, or want to run for beer, there's something to do in Broward and Palm Beach counties this week.

Monday

Fleet Week Kickoff: All Hands on Deck Party at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino
This week, more than 1,000 men and women representing the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and local commands will be celebrated for their services during Fleet Week, a tradition in which active military ships recently deployed in overseas operations dock in a variety of major cities for one week. In South Florida, the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino will be host a special welcome event known as “All Hands on Deck,” which stands as the largest Fleet Week party in South Florida. Now in its 25th year, the Humana Military Fleet Week of Port Everglades will welcome sailors, Marines, and members of the National Coast Guard as they arrive in Broward County for a week-long series of special events, community service projects, and more. On Monday, May 4, you're invited to be a part of the action with a special meet-and-greet party with the troops, who arrive at the Hollywood Hard Rock between 4 to 5 p.m. The Naval Band will play at 5:30 p.m., followed by a ceremony reception with food and drink at 6 p.m. 

Pietra Santa Wine Dinner at Rusty Hook Tavern
This week, the Rusty Hook Tavern in Pompano Beach will be hosting a special wine dinner featuring Pietra Santa Winery, a family-run estate in the Cienega Valley of California located on the San Andreas Fault. Food Truck Roundup at Arts Park
Arts Park in Hollywood's Young Circle will be hosting a food truck round-up featuring a number of Miami-based food trucks from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Starting this week, Arts Park will be hosting a weekly round-up on Monday night for dinner thanks to an initiative put forth by the Broward County Florida Cultural Division. You know the routine. Tell your friends, tell your family, bring your chairs, bring your blankets, and — of course — bring your appetite.

Running For Brews Cinco de Mayo Fort Lauderdale
Seems like every holiday is falling on a Tuesday this year. This week, the recreational social club known as Running For Brews Fort Lauderdale will take advantage of Cinco de Mayo, and will be celebrating with a special holiday-themed run. The social running club first took root in 2010 in Dunedin, Florida, where a small group of strangers met to enjoy two of founder Kevin Bupp’s favorite hobbies: exercise and craft brews. Today, the group has grown across South Florida, and into other cities including Boulder, Colorado. Since its inception, Running For Brews has helped organize over a dozen different charity events by combining weekly runs, social events, themed runs, and charity events. Each location meets on a weekly basis, runs a 5k-designated route, and then enjoys brews and great conversation with like-minded folks. This week, you can join the fun — all you need to do is register online. After, stop and enjoy a beer — and maybe a shot of tequila and a taco, too. Cinco de Mayo Karaoke
This year, why not celebrate Cinco de Mayo with some karaoke and a Taco Tuesday. At Backyard in Boynton Beach, the bar and restaurant is giving you three tacos for $9.95, paired with $5 margaritas, $5 shots of Cuervo Gold, $15 buckets of Corona, and karaoke on the live music stage. If you're looking to eat, drink, sing your Cinco de Mayo away, you do it all in one spot. 

Star Wars Family Night Food Truck Invasion
Every Tuesday night, Plantation will now get their very own weekly themed food truck night at Heritage Park, compliments of Food Truck Invasion. Enjoy a variety of gourmet food from a rotating selection of popular food trucks every Tuesday from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Are you a parent, teacher, student, or school staff member located within five miles of Plantation Heritage Park? Wednesday 

Brew Dogs Viewing Party at Saltwater Brewery
Join Saltwater Brewery in Delray Beach as they kick off the new season of Brew Dogs airing on the Esquire network, from 10 to 11 p.m. every Wednesday. Every week, the brewery will be hosting a viewing party. Don't miss the special event May 20th, the brewery will be showing the South Florida episode which features Saltwater Brewery — as well as a number of other local breweries — as one of the Brew Dog's top five list. To celebrate, during each event the brewery will be doing a sneak-peak tasting of some of their upcoming, un-tapped new and special releases. This week, get a taste of "Confused Sea-Cow" DGC, a Belgian Tripel andSea Cow Milk stout blend, before it's release date on Thursday, May 7.

Farmers' Market Dinner at Tanzy
Tanzy, the restaurant located inside the iPic theater in Boca Raton's Mizner Park, offers an artisanal approach to Italian cuisine. Sourcing a number of local farms, the restaurant's award-winning executive chef will be orchestrating a symphony of flavors with a four-course farmers'  market themed wine pairing dinner on May 6. The cost is $50 per person, or for just the tasting menu pay $30 per person (wine flights optional). The event begins at 7 p.m.

Meatballs and Martinis at Anthony's Runway
Support The Multiple Sclerosis Foundation (MSF) by celebrating with meatballs and martinis at Anthony's Runway 84 in Fort Lauderdale. The restaurant will be hosting a special fundraising event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. to raise awareness and funds for those who are suffering with the disabling disease. A $15 donation includes two free cocktails and unlimited meatballs. The event will feature raffles, live entertainment, and more. The Multiple Sclerosis Foundation (msfocus.org or 888-MSFOCUS) is a national publicly-funded non-profit with headquarters in Fort Lauderdale. The mission of MSF is to provide vital programs and services for those affected by the disease, and heighten public awareness and understanding for those diagnosed with the illness.

Wine Down Wednesday at Whole Foods Market (Davie)
This week, celebrate Wine Down Wednesday "Wines for the Queen" at Whole Foods Market in Davie. The event takes place from 5:30 to 7.m. For $5, guests can enjoy a guided wine tasting at the store's in-house bar, The Watering Hole. Learn a little more about wine, any maybe pick one up of mom to gift on Mother's Day. Pre-registration is required. Call 954-916-3000 to reserve a spot.

Pietra Santa Wine Dinner at Bistro Ten Zero One
This week, broaden your "dining horizons" and join Bistro Ten Zero One in West Palm Beach with Pietra Santa Wine. Chef Mark Henry will serve a menu of creative dishes from Chermoula marinated prawns to lamb Persillade. Each course will be paired with a wine from Pietra Santa Winery. The event will begin with a champagne reception at 7 p.m., followed by a seated dinner at 7:30 p.m. The cost is $50 per person, plus tax and gratuity. An RSVP on Local Wine Events is required. 

Thursday

Cycle Party Pub Crawl With Young Pros
Get the party started early this week with Young Pros and their first Cycle Party Pub Crawl. On Thursday, May 7, the youth networking group will pedal its way to Fort Lauderdale's Tarpon Bend, Himmarshee Public House, and Craft Beer Cartel. Admission is $30 per person if you pre-pay online (or $35 at the door) and includes a complimentary drink at Public House and Tarpon Bend, as well as a craft beer sample at Craft Beer Cartel. Check-in is at the Riverwalk Recreation Office (300 SW 1st Ave, #111, Fort Lauderdale) at 6:30 p.m. Departure is at 7 p.m. Ticket sales will end at 7 p.m. on May 7, or when seats sell out.

Biz to Biz Networking Event
This week, join Biz To Biz Networking at a great new location in the heart of downtown Delray Beach. Now, Honey is playing host to the networking and social group. Tickets are $10 per person, and includes light appetizers and discounted drink specials. Pay online, and bring a guest for free. Two Year Anniversary Party at Hullaballoo
Celebrate Hullabaloo West Palm Beach's "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" two year anniversary this Thursday, from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
The event will run into the wee hours, and features prizes for the best and the most original Cuckoo-themed costume, half-priced bottles of wine and champagne all night, and a reverse happy hour beginning at 10 p.m. Live music compliments of DJ Adam Lipson. Don't miss owner Rodney Mayo dressed as Cheswick. Not only do you have to be cuckoo, but a bit of a night owl, too: The costume contest starts at midnight.

Wellington Food Truck Invasion
Every Thursday between November and May, food trucks invade the Wellington Amphitheatre from 5 to 9:30 p.m. (after May the event happens twice each month until October rolls around). Until the end of May, you can enjoy over 20 food trucks each week, as well as a free concert at the outdoor amphitheater.
