If you're not driving too fast, you'll probably notice the numerous dancing dogs (actually, facsimiles thereof) in front of Hot Diggity Dogs & More! (2641 Griffin Rd., Fort Lauderdale, 954-981-7827), an otherwise-inconspicuous little roadside stand where for nearly a dozen years Browardites have streamed in for steamed Sabrett all-beef frankfurters. There are New York dogs dressed in mustard, sauerkraut, and a spicy red onion mix made on the premises. Then there're Chicago dogs dudded up in that gruffer city's more garish garnishing of pickles, peppers, onions, relish, and whatever condiment the wind hasn't blown away. They're so inexpensive ($1.85 to $2.25) and relatively insubstantial, you might want to try one of each and complete the trifecta with a juicy Vienna sausage on fresh poppy seed bun -- nothing but daily-baked breads here. Owner Rosina Smith reminds us that "this is not just a hot dog joint," and a survey of those filling the 40 canopied seats outside and nine stools at the indoor counter confirm this. Many were munching the grilled, half-pound, "freshly chopped" sirloin burger ($4.45). And fries too. The moral? Slow down and smell the sauerkraut.
