Deal of the Day: $1 Burgers on Tuesday at Bull Market in Fort Lauderdale

Sometimes, a really good food deal can seem too good to be true. That's pretty much how you'll feel about Bull Market's special Tuesday burger night, which even has it's own slogan: "sounds cheap, tastes expensive."

Sure, a $1 burger may sound too good to be true. And yes, that's not a misprint. From 4 p.m. to 1 a.m., every Tuesday, you can order one of the restaurant's 6-ounce Angus burgers for $1.

If the vegetarian in your life is feeling a little left out with all that beefy goodness you'll be happy to hear the deal takes on a meat-free form with the restaurant's own grilled portobello mushroom caps served up on the same fresh Protano's Bakery bun. Same goes for the diet-conscious who prefer a chicken breast over red meat and mushroom.

So, what's the catch? To get the $1 deal patrons must purchase a beverage,  be it a soda, bottled water, beer, or cocktail.

Of course, specialty toppings will run you a little extra. Desire some fresh veggies? Onion, tomato, jalapeños, onions straws, or grilled mushroom will cost you an extra $.50. Same with sauces like the house made Thai peanut, chipotle mayo, or spicy BBQ (to name a few). Just want cheese, instead? Get blue cheese crumbles, cheddar, American, or pepper jack for $.75 extra. And guacamole, bacon, or cheese fondue, will run you $.85, or shell out an added $1.25 for bison chili or house made jalapeño bacon.

If all that sounds overwhelming, the customization process is quite simple: guests are handed a sheet of paper resembling a stock tip sheet — staying in line with the establishment's stock market ticker pricing board — that allows them to customize their $1 burger with various accoutrements. Get one topping from every category, however, and you're still paying less than $5 for your burger.

Last, there's an option to add an order of hand cut fries, served with cheese fondue and the house ketchup, for $5 more.

According to Bull Market owner John Todora, the best part of the evening is the casual crowd that has started to frequent the $1 burger nights. Because the deal lasts through the better part of the evening, and until the wee hours of the morning, the restaurant has become a meeting place of sorts for groups of friends and coworkers to socialize, chow down, and put back a few drinks, he said.
