The fresh-baked pastries, cakes, pies, and cookies at Fort Lauderdale's Warsaw Coffee Co. are pretty tasty. So good, in fact, that pastry chef and partner Jason Morale said he tends to sell out of many of his goods by midday. And just one bite of his Fruity Pebble oatmeal raisin cookies, pake (an edible masterpiece that is half chocolate cake, half caramel pecan pie), dulce de leche eclairs, or a homemade jam-filled Pop Tart-inspired pop pastry is enough to have you craving each all day long.

Although it would be acceptable to sit and stuff your face with these treats pretty much any time of day, the Warsaw menu also offers more savory fare, including breakfast choices like bagel egg sandwiches and sausage burritos (available from 7 a.m. until the ingredients run out), or tuna and chicken salad wraps for lunch (served 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.).

Last week, Warsaw extended its dining options with a menu roll-out of new dishes, available from 5 p.m. until closing time at 11. The new evening selections include starters and open-toast bruschetta-style dishes that pair perfectly with an expanded beverage selection of craft beers and wine.
"When we opened [in March 2015], we knew we'd have a lunch crowd and that people would want to come in to eat throughout the afternoon," says Warsaw partner and cofounder Scott Ojeda. "But we never anticipated that we would have the evening and night crowd that we do."
As a result, Morale and Ojeda decided to expand the menu and give patrons a way to enjoy the coffee shop past the usual caffeine-infused hours. In addition to the food, the cooler cases that once housed only water, soft drinks, and cold brew coffee now offer more than 70 beers by the bottle. There's even a happy hour every day from 5 to 7 p.m., when eat-in patrons can get $2 off craft beer bottles and $5 glasses of house wine.

"Although much of my career has revolved around pastries, breads, and baked goods, I've really enjoyed exploring this side of the kitchen too," says Morale. "These savory dishes are perfect for sharing with friends and enjoying all that Warsaw has to offer later in the evening."

That includes starters (pick two for $10, or four for $18) like hand-pulled mozzarella with heirloom tomatoes, hummus with olives and fresh-baked bread, and artisan cheese and meat boards. More substantial offerings take an Italian lead, a series of riffs on bruschetta pairing ingredients like smoked salmon with a leek-lemon cream, prosciutto with macerated fruit and mascarpone, or pulled chicken with goat cheese, tomato, and fennel.

Warsaw Coffee Co. is located at 815 NE 13th St., Fort Lauderdale. Call 954-990-4189, or visit warsawcoffee.com.
