The longtime musical couple
As evidenced by Saturday's high-energy performance at Revolution Live with local openers Deaf Poets, the moment Matt and Kim hit the stage, they're a serious force, jumping up and down, giddy and smiling. They kicked off their set with "Hey Now," off their latest and fifth album, New Glow.
The packed house erupted as Kim took to her drums — of course, smiling nonstop — and Matt hammered away at the keys. They both chatted up the crowd between songs.
"There is something very special about today," Matt announced. "Today is the youngest any of us will ever be. Are you ready to make some memories with us?"
The night featured Kim's signature booty dance moves, in which she manages to somehow gracefully jump atop her drum kit without falling off it. Each time, Matt would look at her and smile like it
Matt frequently quipped between songs, recounting details of the couple's relationship, revealing how Kim
"Today is a fucking good boob day," she responded, delving into a "time of the month" talk, which Matt shamelessly picked up, admitting he has yet to earn his "red wings." Perhaps TMI for some, it's this kind of banter that makes every Matt and Kim show feel fresh and like it was made just for you.
While their shows feel like a celebration of life, all wide-eyed smiles and exuberance, Matt and Kim's raunchy jokes save them from becoming over-the-top cheesy-happy folks, thankfully. In fact, they're just as candid with fans online as they are onstage. Prior to and after their performances, Matt and Kim take
They're also quite accessible on social media: "Hey, DM me on Twitter later," Matt said to a fan after the show. And he really sounded sincere.
In between their original material, the duo performed covers of popular hip-hop songs, such as R. Kelly's "Ignition Remix," which the crowd absolutely ate up.
While a posted sign near the stage said "No Crowd Surfing," an activity typically encouraged at their shows, rebellious Kim did come out and have the crowd give her a lift, adding to the festive craziness.
Another fun aspect of Saturday night's show was when Matt and Kim introduced a 40-foot parachute for revelers in the pit to hold up over their heads. From the back of the midsized venue, the parachute seemed to transform into a waving ocean of madness.
As the show came to an end, the adorable and tireless duo promised they would come back soon to South Florida. And we sure hope they do.
