Farmer Jay -- civilian name: Jason McCobb -- will lead a one-hour workshop for budding organic gardeners at Whole Foods Market in Boca Raton from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday. The informal workshop will cover basics such as soil amendments and other fundamentals of organic gardening.
McCobb -- founder of Farmer Jay Pure Organics -- and Whole Foods in Boca have both played a part in the nearby Boca Raton Community Garden at 101 NW Fourth St., where Farmer Jay has led similar tutorials on the ins and outs of organics.
For intro seminars, the agricultural entrepreneur focuses on the "basic philosophy" of going organic in the garden and addresses common concern like pests and nutrients as well as those that are specific to the challenging growing conditions in Florida (turns out, it takes more than an insane amount of sunshine to make things survive).
There's no charge for the "How To" demo, but preregistration is encouraged at 561-447-0000.
