As Clean Plate Charlie pointed out earlier this week, May is National Hamburger Month. You can read our list of ways to celebrate the occasion here. But if you're not a meat eater, there's no reason to be left completely out of the fun. After the jump, we've got a list of eleven places to get a veggie burger in South Florida. I realize these choices are not hamburgers, but remember: vegetarians love food too! As a bonus, most (not all) of these places have actual hamburgers too, so everyone can walk away happy.
Charm City Burgers -- There's no frozen, store-bought hockey puck patty here; the hippie ($6) is house-made with a blend of mushrooms, black beans, and herbs.
Tap 42 -- The veggie burger ($12.50) is a blend of black beans, beets, onion, carrots, jalapeno, and a soy glaze topped with provolone cheese and beet mayo.
Sublime -- This vegetarian restaurant's veggie burger ($16) is made with black japonica rice, red mahogany rice, and black beans and is topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, and jalapeno mayo. Served with sweet potato fries.
Green Wave Cafe -- Order the "cheese" burger from this raw, organic vegan cafe and prepare to be surprised at how such a thing can exist, devoid of any animal products.
The Yard House -- Order any version of the restaurant's burger with a Gardein patty instead of beef.
Elevation Burger -- Not one, but two types of veggie burgers on the menu (plus a half-veggie/half-meat version). Veggie burger option one has a "fire roasted" taste, while veggie burger option two is vegan.
CG Burgers -- The vegetarian burger ($6.50) is made with a Dr. Praeger's patty.
BurgerFi -- One of the few local choices made with quinoa (a complete protein and powerhouse in the vegan/vegetarian diet) and topped with white cheddar cheese.
YOLO Restaurant and O Lounge -- Their flavor-packed ultimate veggie burger ($10.50) is made with bulgur wheat, crimini mushrooms, cashews, and topped with melted jack cheese.
Grease Burger Bar -- The veggie burger ($10.95) is topped with cucumbers and hummus.
Eten Food Co. -- The recipe changes daily depending on what vegetables are in season. It's so tasty it's served without a bun and it's one of the most popular items on the menu.
