In the world of short-lived electronic dance music fads, electro house is pretty much dead, extinguished by the very intensity with which it alighted on the international dance music scene in 2006-2008. The same brash and abrasive over-the-top sound that made electro house exciting a couple years ago -- when it sounded like the new rock -- can now get a bit exhausting, especially with the countless dime-a-dozen producers flooding the Internet and airwaves with a zillion cookie-cutter variations of the same old shit ad nauseam. One artist, however, has stood the test of time and the passing of his genre's heyday, and that's Austin-based DJ/producer Wolfgang Gartner, a.k.a. Joey Youngman.
A relative newcomer to the international arena, Gartner gained almost immediate mass acclaim in 2007 for the astonishing quality of his complex and nuanced productions which blow up electro house to epic, quasi-symphonic proportions -- see his jacked-up fidgety rendition of Beethoven's Symphony No. 5. In just one year of releases he landed three top 10 singles on Beatport and a Pete Tong "essential new tune of the week" nod on BBC's Radio 1 for "Flashback", released on his own Kindergarten imprint. Electro house fans won't want to miss out on the booming collosal
