Oh, doughnut. We have such a love/hate relationship with you. Even as we delight in your sweetness, we know that you're not good for us. Yet, while our brains tell us there's something better for us lurking around the corner, our hearts yearn for you in all your glazed glory. In short -- we love you like we could never love a bowl of oatmeal.
To show our love, we're celebrating National Doughnut Day tomorrow, June 7, with an all-day doughnut fest. Here's where you can celebrate, too. Hint: It's Friday, so take a box of doughnuts to the office and score mucho points with your co-workers as you host a "really close to weekend" party!
Mojo Donuts has started a craze. The little shop filled with flavors like guava, mango, and Key Lime is baking a special "White Hot Heat" doughnut to celebrate the Miami Heat and National Doughnut day. "They're going to be chocolatey and spicy at the same time", says owner Shawn Neifeld. He and wife Shelly will be working overtime to produce all of your favorites should you want to stop in and bring a few dozen to the office. The doughnuts range from $1.09-$1.75 each. A dozen cost $12.99; a half dozen are $6.99.
Dandee Donuts Factory makes donuts the way mom would have -- fresh and delicious with a steaming cup a coffee. Donuts are $1.37 each or $12.49 for a dozen.
Krispy Kreme is celebrating the big day by giving away one free doughnut of your choice. The offer is good for one doughnut per person on June 7 at participating Krispy Kreme locations. Happily we checked and all of our local Krispy Kremes are giving away the sweet treats!
At participating Dunkin' Donuts, guests can get a free doughnut of their choice with the purchase of any beverage. Friday is also the launch of the new glazed donut breakfast sandwich, which consists of a fried egg and cherrywood-smoked bacon inside a split glazed donut. At 360 calories, it's actually better for you than the croissant variety.
