Fort Lauderdale residents, get ready to experience one of the nicest sports bars in town. From the restaurant group behind New Times' Best Restaurant in Coral Gables, Fiola Miami, comes D's Sports Bar, opening next Thursday, February 20, in Fort Lauderdale.

D's Sports Bar is the latest spot from Gioia Hospitality Group, which owns Daniel's, A Florida Steakhouse right next door. The sports bar sits in a transformed 1950s car service garage at 620 S. Federal Hwy., and it doesn't serve average bar food.

D's kitchen creates Italian-American comfort dishes with a twist – think provolone arancini, Wagyu meatballs, and loaded nachos to start. The sandwich lineup stars a double patty smash burger stacked with Florida Tomme cheese and double-cut bacon, a French dip dripping with onion au jus, and a crispy hogfish sandwich topped with fennel slaw. Bigger plates include Wagyu Denver steak frites, grilled mahi tacos, and Cavatelli Della Nonna swimming in spicy arrabbiata sauce. The kitchen sources ingredients from Florida producers like Suwannee River Wagyu, Hawthorne Creamery, and Tiny and Swank Farms.

Sports and Swank Combine

The space marries sports-watching functionality with high-end touches — think a dozen high-def screens surrounded by plush green seating, dark wood finishes and brass touches. A marble bar anchors the room, lined with brown leather barstools, perfect for parking yourself during a Heat game. A wagon wheel pendant light brightens the room, while exposed ceiling beams add subtle industrial character.

For super fans, there's the Florida Legends Room, a private dining space for up to 40 people decorated with signed jerseys from Miami Dolphins Hall of Famer Jason Taylor, soccer star Lionel Messi, and Jeff Conine.
