Downtown Fort Lauderdale's ever-evolving dining landscape will soon feel like the Mediterranean. Mykonos, a multifaceted riverfront restaurant, opens on Wednesday, February 26. The new coastal-inspired spot will open at the former Rivertail restaurant space. (Right next door is the newly opened hot spot, Swizzle Rum Bar & Drinkery, which was founded in Miami Beach.)

Mykonos was founded by Breakwater Hospitality Group, the operators behind the Wharf next door, among other endeavors, in partnership with the Entourage Group, which operates brands nationally like Janken and Boro. The restaurant aims to bring the breezy, open-air allure of the Greek islands to the shore of the New River.

"We've run with the idea of bringing the outdoor into the space," Alexa Stanghetta, director of operations for The Entourage Group, tells New Times. "It truly does encompass the best of the Mediterranean, with light, airy feels, a bunch of beautiful curtains, and it's all right beside the river."

Coastal Yet Modern Dining With a Mediterranean Menu

The restaurant's design leans toward coastal modern, with flowing drapery, natural wood tones, and soft nautical accents. Plush seating, warm ambient lighting, and even semi-private cabana set-ups set the tone for an atmosphere that blends intimacy with Instagram-able pop. A spacious patio provides a near-perfect setting for al fresco dining, enhancing the transportive vibe.

The menu features Mediterranean-inspired dishes with some modern twists. Highlights, according to Stanghetta, include a peach stracciatella salad ($19) with roasted pistachios and peach vinaigrette, beef carpaccio ($24) topped with dijon aioli and pomegranate seeds, and Chilean seabass ($59) served in saffron cream with sautéed mushrooms. A selection of mezze plates offers shareable options like fried calamari ($21) dazzled with a walnut tartar sauce, crispy zucchini chips ($15), and charred Spanish octopus ($29) with a romesco sauce.

Signature Cocktails to Bring Fun Vibes to the Riverfront Restaurant

And let's not forget the signature cocktails, folks, which start at $17.

The libations here are designed with Mediterranean influences and tropical flavors front and center. Concoctions like the "Pineapple Express," made with grilled pineapple-infused tequila mixed with mezcal, Cointreau, cardamom bitters, and lemon, offer a smoky and fresh twist. Plus, "Hera's Garden," a gin-based cocktail with bergamot and elderflower, presents a more floral, citrus-forward option. For wine lovers, there's a smattering of Mediterranean and old-world wines to select from. Non-alcoholic selections are also available, including fresh juices and herbal-infused mocktails.

For those looking to linger longer, Mykonos has a patio hookah experience, which is called Nafas, utilizing top-line tobacco offerings. Guests can choose from classic and exotic blends, enjoying the leisurely experience under the twinkle of ambient lighting.

Mykonos will open daily at 5 p.m., with reservations until 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Beyond its opening phase, Stanghetta says happy hour specials and regular programming elements are in the works.
